2 says: i’d like to see black hair care magazines with more “wearable” natural hair styles and less processed junk as well. I used to collect magazines by a popular company, but since Im natural now, the styles and stuff don’t apply to me.
Now I prefer short hair. I actually love it. To me growing up, the bw who had the short hair always looked very well put together and sophisticated. They just looked very clean. That’s the look I want for myself.
A lot of guys don’t always like the short hair b/c they think it’s too masculine. But I don’t have self esteem issues like that to care. But again i can’t control the responses anyway.
And black women do have control over their hair but they can’t control the responses they get from them. Hair for a lot of bw is a sensitive issue and therefore we can be insecure about it. So if you end up getting more attention or positive feedback from men when you wear the weave vs ur real hair, then a wmn will probably wear the weave.
I never had a weave but I did have longer hair at one point and a friend of mine said my hair was what attracted him to me initially…
I personally am not blaming anyone. It’s a personal choice how someone wears their hair. I’m just stating what is.
I can say however that sterotypical feminity is closely associated with longer vibrant hair. So a lot of women tend to get the weaves to get that beautiful “sexy” or youthful look. Different hairstyles give off different vibes. so even though people don’t LOOK like tyra or beyonce they still want to have their look. right now the more hair the sexier ur I suppose
well then who controls mainstream media? Not black men. its not black mens’ fault that black women want to mainstream into a society that is not created or maintained by them.
I think black women have more control than they portray in terms of their hair. i just feel like they are scared to take the risk so they go with what is comfortable. What makes tyra and other women in her league attractive to black men has more components than just her hair length and texture.
It’s just about the styles that are out now. I like short bobs. When your young you tend to follow the trends, when your older you tend to develop your own style. Natural hair is just another look. It looks good but it’s not mainstream enough nor is it promoted enough as being beautiful where the majority of the women would where it. But i hear you.
